Far west residents urged to speak up about suicide rates

After the news of the tragedy broke, the Canadian Red Cross began sending aid to those affected by the storm — an amount equal to more than 80 per cent of the city's population.

In the aftermath of the storm, many of them have been making telephone calls to loved ones and neighbours asking them to speak up about the high numbers of suicide rates among families who are currently stranded, according to CBC Radio's Vancouver Island Newstalk 1010.

Bennett said some people are taking their lives at a faster rate than expected — between 30 to 60 per cent.

"We've seen an increase of approximately 25 per cent, over 30 per cent, over a 12-month period, in the number of suicide ideation and attempts in this community," Bennett told the station.

But many residents in west Vancouver, even those in the city's highest-density areas, still fear a long, tough struggle.

"We have family members who have to go out and help, and the homeless campers who will be coming in and out, so there's a real urgency with what's going on here," said Paul Bousset, a volunteer with the local group One in Three.

"They have to make their lives worse to keep themselves safe."

German comedian suspends tv show amid row involving erdogan scandal

The actor's agent said that the star is on vacation and not yet under investigation for violating the terms of his contract.

The star's agent, Giorgio Berlato, told Corriere dello Sport he was unaware of any breach by the actor.

The comedy acter, who played er Doktor, is a convicted rapist who had previously been sentenced to prison for assault.

A row over sexual behaviour between the actor and his model girlfriend was revealed in mid-April by tabloid paper GQ.

Doktor was accused of assaulting his girlfriend's then 18-year-old lover in the hotel room in which they met over the summer.

A criminal complaint made by Doktor's former wife, who was present at the time of the crime and was later interviewed by detectives, stated that he had sexually assaulted his own wife.

Doktor had told the tabloid that his wife has been drinking heavily and he decided to "take it out on" her.

It is reported that the actor is also accused of threatening his new girlfriend with violence if he does not leave her, according to Corriere.

The incident between Doktor and his alleged lover, however, reportedly involved the actor using the word "f***ing idiot".

An alleged member of the star's entourage, who spoke to the gossip site, said "a few words" had been exchanged by the star towards the victim while she was intoxicated.

"He said that he was sorry, it was all a blip in a sea of alcohol. He told her that his behavior was wrong and she had to grow up," the alleged member of the entourage said.

The woman, now 23 and employed by one of her actors' agency, said the pair had been living together since the couple moved in together in May last year.

When asked if there was anything in the allegations which could lead to charges being filed, the alleged member of the entourage added: "There's nothing."

Another alleged member of the entourage added: "There is nothing. There is no situation."

It comes as the scandal surrounding former lover, Khanda Singh, who was seen as the main point of contact for the disgraced star, is likely to be dealt with by courts as well.

Doktor's new agent, Giorgio Berlato, recently denied that the former model's contract with an actress had been cancelled.

The model's agency had told TV channel Sky that the contract is still in place, however, it is yet to be verified whether the actress had signed a new one.
